The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is designed for students preparing for careers such as medicine, dentistry, environmental studies, veterinary medicine, patent law, secondary science education or forensic chemistry. The Chemical Education Major allows students to meet all the requirements for full certification to teach 6-12 in the State of Florida. Students may work with the Department's faculty members, many of whom are interdisciplinary in their training and interests and teach in several fields, in their research labs. Some present the result of their research at national conferences and publish them in chemistry journals.

The Chemical Education major offers a degree in the discipline with multiple field experiences in diverse classroom settings and culminates in a full-time teaching internship. Upon graduation from the program, students are endorsed for Full Teacher Certification by the State of Florida’s Department of Education.

Civil Engineering is the oldest of the engineering disciplines. It involves the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings, highways, railways, bridges, airports, seaports, and other structures of modern society. Given the global need for rebuilding, maintaining and further developing infrastructures, the demand for civil engineers has never been greater. Civil engineers can choose from a broad spectrum of career opportunities in industry, government and private consulting. Our program provides a background of interrelated sub-disciplines of Civil Engineering with the fundamental core subjects of the engineering program. The curriculum consists of 129 credits hours, including technical courses in the areas of construction, geotechnical, environmental, structural, surveying, transportation, and water resources engineering.

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts is for those interested in pursuing careers as directors of communication in business, government, non-profit organizations or the arts. Students enrolled in our courses can expect to develop communication skills essential for leadership, corporate communication and crisis management. Students will learn how to advocate and critically debate ideas in social and political settings, to appreciate diverse communication styles, to work productively in task oriented groups, and to engage in rewarding interpersonal relationships.

Students in the Computer Engineering (CpE) program are trained in the areas of hardware architecture, software engineering, hardware-software integration, signal and image processing, instrumentation and filter design, and computer networking. The objective is to provide excellence in education so that our graduates become critical thinkers, creative problem solvers and life-long learners. Our graduates are trained to stay current in their field of expertise and to excel in their respective organizations. Furthermore, the CpE program provides students with a solid foundation necessary for pursuing advanced studies in computing and related disciplines that bridge hardware designs with new software developments.

Students are taught skills in the art and science of computer programming that exposes them to program design, logic, computing theory, software engineering, and validation. Students develop software in our state of the art labs that offer a variety of operating system and interactive development environments. Typical jobs obtained by recent graduates include, computer programmer, computer analyst, and computer support specialist. Students who intend to pursue a software engineering career should select the Software Development Track.

The undergraduate program in Construction Management is nationally accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Its goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for entry level supervisory or managerial positions in the construction industry. Graduates usually find employment as project managers, project schedulers, cost estimators, quality controllers or in managing their own construction firms. Opportunities for employment or advancement exist in all areas of the construction industry including land development, home building, public building, industrialized building systems, commercial, industrial, marine and highway heavy construction, underwater and space age facilities, material and equipment sales and installations, and construction product research, development and sales.

Crime Science combines forensics and computer science with traditional criminology and criminal justice. It is interdisciplinary involving law, the social and behavioral sciences, crime, the reaction of society to the crime problem, and the means used in treating it. The program produces graduates with sophisticated analytical skills needed for a new era of law enforcement.

The BS in Crime Science is intended for students who appreciate the modern complexities of crime, its prevention and control. Contemporary concerns over homeland security has created an unprecedented demand for criminal justice and counter terrorism have also created new technological problems and demands for police agencies, as has the growth of computer-related crime. Internship opportunities are plentiful for undergraduate students and students can be placed in numerous local, state and federal agencies. The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Science is offered both onsite and fully online.

It is interdisciplinary involving law, the social and behavioral sciences, crime, the reaction of society to the crime problem, and the means used in treating it. The study of criminal justice fills the needs of students seeking careers in law and within the various agencies of the criminal justice system.
